Happy National Banana Cream Pie Day!

Banana Cream Pie is a variation of a classic custard pie, containing Graham crackers, custard, banana and cream.

In 1951, banana cream pie was named the armed forces favorite desert. Also favored by chefs, the pie was dressed with chocolate and butter scotch.

It is thought the banana cream pie originated in the mid West as pies have always been popular there. Bananas were thought to have started being added to pies in the 19th century when bananas came from being exotic to becoming commonplace.

Before this many Americans had never seen or eaten a banana, but with technological advances of refrigeration they quickly became the most popukar fruit eaten in America.
